Candlemas

Please call or email if you would like to join us for a tour. We offer tours by appointment. Tours take approximately 60 minutes depending on the conversation that happens after. You’ll see the entire Center inside and out, meet some of the staff briefly, and have a chance to ask questions in conversation with the Director or one of the Worker Owners.

Candlemas

If Candlemas Day be fair and bright,

Winter will take another flight.

If Candlemas Day be cloud and rain,

Winter is gone and will not come again.

The Candlemas festival marks the gradual return of the sunlight. Already the days are growing longer.

At The Rose Garden, we celebrate Candlemas during the school day. When you and you children arrive in the morning, there will be candles burning outside in the snow to welcome back the lengthening days.

The preschool children and oldest toddlers will make candles during the day at the Center. They walk slowly around a table dipping their wicks into a slow cooker of liquid beeswax as they pass. The teachers sing songs that emphasize the turning of the seasons. Children will often sing along. But for many, the circular path and the sequence of dipping are all absorbing.

We invite you to enjoy the candles as you enter on Candlemas Day, and share the thought of lengthening days to come with your child.
